The Challenge
A long established leader in diagnostic medicine needed a solution for integrating with critical hospital partners. This company was a pioneer in the concept of creating patient centers for integrated diagnostic medicine. A hurdle to overcome was that it had a vast number of data collection points inside several hospitals throughout a large geographic footprint. This created a time consuming process that needed transformation and updating to keep patients and hospitals satisfied.
Central challenges included:
- Time-consuming and resource-constraining process of manually collecting and transcribing exam requests from hospital partners’ service centers
- Partner requirement of the automation of collecting and transcribing lab samples
- Large quantity of data collection points and vast geographic footprint
- Time to completion was a major pressure point for the project
The Objective
The primary goals included:
- Automate the exam request process from partner hospitals to the labs
- Create more flexibility for lab customers and save time and cost
The Solution
Because the lab company was already working with Digibee on other projects the challenge was accepted and relished.
A company representative put it this way, “It was a new integration challenge for all of us. We started working on the project by preparing the standard model and leaving it to Digibee to develop an authentication for the connection between the two institutions.”
The steps for the project included translating all of the layout fields of the hospital’s management system into the layout already used by the laboratory system. Based on this translation, Digibee developed a solution capable of transforming the model used by the lab company, including a series of improvements during the work.
With the integration, doctors became directly responsible for prescriptions, making the process more agile. “Digibee easily created a pipeline to meet the integration expectation of the hospital by prioritizing the project and delivering the solution on time,” says the lab’s IT manager. “After this, there was no longer the need for manually entering the information. Now when the doctor prescribes in the hospital’s system, Digibee translates the order into our laboratory system.“
The Results
The lab company’s IT Manager explains, “With this integration, we no longer need care operators in the hospital. Also, the hospital achieved HIMSS level 6 certification, recognizing that management has made progress in digitizing its processes and increasing the quality and safety of patient care! We’d never done an integration this quickly, based on a new tool and unknown to our team.”
The Digibee integration Platform has become a prerequisite for the laboratory’s architecture team. Before they worked with only two integration models which limited possibilities. With Digibee, it became possible to work with any model.
“The focus now is to integrate the Digibee solution with all the new hospitals that are coming on board and to migrate all the hospitals we work with. Our desire is to migrate all of them, adopting newer technology,” the IT manager explained. “We have included three more hospitals as a result of the success of the current integration from Digibee.”
“This integration would need to be done through a query where our system searches for the data in their database and loads directly into our display. Digibee was able to provide a solution for this problem.”
